PONIES OF CHINCOTEAGUE, 1997

IPABRA President, Chris Semon's, account of her trip to Chincoteague in 1997:

CHINCOTEAGUE: This past summer my fiancee and I took a trip to Virginia. Naturally I was insistent that Chincoteague was a must-see during our trip! Misty of Chincoteague was a big influence on me when I was young and I wanted to see the land where she lived.

Here is the Chincoteague water tower and me. Definite proof that I was there! :)

These are the famous marshes of Assateague. The ponies were uncooperative and didn't come close to the road; however, if you squint, you can see tiny blobs in the distance. Those are genuine wild Chincoteague Ponies. :)

One hotel had "genuine Chincoteague Ponies" on their premises. This is the closest I got to seeing the real article, so a snapped several pictures while I could. :)

More hotel Chincoteague Ponies.

The stuffed Misty was originally housed in this barn. Unfortunately, she and the stuffed Stormy were later shipped to Pennsylvania so she is no longer on display on the island.

Here is me standing in front of where Misty's meadow used to be on the original Beebe land. Unfortunately the actual Beebe house burned down in the spring of 996, so I couldn't take any photos of that. It's easy though to imagine Misty galloping along this pretty clearing.

This year the Misty of Chincoteague Foundation commissioned a sculpture of Misty. Here is the plaque in front of the sculpture.

Here's the Misty of Chincoteague statue. The sign above is from the unveiling of the statue.
