Purpose
To promote the practice of Pedigree Assignment in the model horse hobby, and to provide those interested in Pedigree Assignment with a place to meet others, share ideas, and compete with their horses.
Membership
Anyone with an interest in pedigree assignment may join. Dues are $3.00 a year for all members and includes an electronic subscription to our newsletter. Dues can be paid via snail mail (see address above) or through Pay Pal to wombats@earthlink.net.
Newsletter
IPABRA publishes a newsletter (Bloodlines) six times a year - in January, March, May. July, September, and November. A subscription is included in the yearly dues. Advertisements, articles, opinions, and suggestions are all highly welcomed! Beginning November 1st, 2007, Bloodlines will be delivered ONLY by e-mail. Bloodlines can be sent by PDF
file through Adobe (highly recommended) or by text file (no pictures).
Registration
IPABRA maintains a registry for the purpose of compiling stud books and assisting members with sire and dam searches. Registrations are free and unlimited. The following information needs to be submitted to the Registrar: name, breed, gender, color/markings, foaling date/age, sire, dam, and grandparents (if known), make, mold, the first year available at stud/hire, and the breeding fee. Please use the your preferred spreadsheet option (15KB zip file) to submit your registrations. Registration numbers do not have to appear on photos, and no LSASE is required when sending in registrations. Horses do not need to be registered to show in IPABRA.
Aging vs. Non-Aging
IPABRA does not ask members to chose either the aging or non-aging system. The club does not take a stand on which is "correct". Because both systems have their merits, using either is acceptable.
Publications & Stud Book Search
IPABRA publishes periodic Stud Books. The Stud Books contain a comprehensive listing of members and their registered breeding stock, and are useful to anyone searching for model parents. Members' horses are included without charge, provided that they are sent in to the Registrar. Copies of the Stud Books are available from the Registrar (address above) for $15. In addition, the registrar maintains a stud book search for anyone looking for a specific sort of sire. Interested members should write to the Registrar with a LSASE and state what sort of breed, color, and year available sire or dam that they need. The Registrar will then respond with a list of all available IPABRA stock that might be suitable for parents.
Monthly Point Shows
Monthly Point Shows are held the second weekend of each month and are free. Nationals are held in December, using the same classlist as the monthly shows. Anyone can judge a monthly show, and volunteers are always needed! To volunteer to hold a point show or a club benefit show, please contact the President (address above) with a LSASE. The classlist and a schedule of judges will appear in each newsletter.
SHOW TRAIN: This will happen beginning January 2008! Entrants will have the option of entering the shows via show train OR through regular entry. If you want to do it through show train, you need to include the following:
You may send additional horses throughout the year to the current show holder to ride the show train - just please include a note to let the judge know that they should be included on the train. If you send more than 20 photos, please include a couple of extra dollars for additional postage.
You may also choose to enter your horses through the traditional route of one month at a time - the show train will not be required.
At this time, the show train will be for the POSTAL HALTER shows ONLY.
Judges: After judging, the first judge will purchase a box large enough to contain all of the photos and envelopes. They will then send that box on to the February judge. After the February judge is finished judging, they will place all entries and envelopes inside the box, relabel the address with the March judge's mailing information, and then send it off to the March judge. This process will continue until November. The November judge will throw out the box and send all entries home in the entrant's envelopes. All judges will be reimbursed for the box postage - please scan and e-mail the receipt and send it to Chris Wallbruch at wombats@earthlink.net, or mail it to her at wombats@earthlink.net.
ONLINE SHOWS: As many of our members prefer to show in online shows, we have (thanks to the award winning team of Suzanne Feld and Carra Reinmiller) provided an online division for our halter showers. Members must choose to enter either the online show OR the postal show each month - you cannot enter both shows in the same month. This will hopefully create a fun new division for our photo showers and bring out some additional competition! For more information, visit the IPABRA Online Monthly Point Show (OPOS) Classlist and Rules now.
Monthly Point Shows will be divided into two divisions; A: Original Finish and B: Customized. Original Finish will be any mass-produced factory models (such as Breyers, Northlights, Hagen-Renakers, Pour Horse, Peter Stone, Black Horse Ranch, ect) and Customized will be any horses that have been altered from their original finish or handpainted by hobby artists, regardless of who painted them. Photos should be clearly labeled by Division and by class number(s), since the classes (and numbers) for each division are the same. Champions are named separately for each division. Champions and reserves may be selected by either judge-off or by point totals.

Rules: If the judge feels there are enough horses, breed and color classes may be split by gender. One honorable mention may be named if there are over 20 horses in a class. 1, 3: Junior Sire and Dam classes are for parents who are shown with 1-2 foals, 2,4: Senior Sire and Dam classes are for parents who are shown with 3+ foals. Horses may NOT cross-enter junior and senior classes. 5: Breeding Family: Three or more generations (grandparent, parent, foal) of the same family. 6: The BSO class is for horses that exist only on paper, and yet have a number of visible show stock. These horses should be shown on an index card stating their statistics (name, age, breed, parents, ect) and should be shown with photos of their bloodstock. Gender Classes: These will be divided based on A or B division- so a horse entered in 7A would be a OF Plastic Stallion, while a horse entered in 7B would be a Customized Stallion. 17: Part-Arabians include all part-breds of Arabian type and breeding, such as NSH, Pintabians, Anglo-Arabs, and Welaras. 19: Other American Gaited includes the American Gaited breeds other than the ASB, such as TWHs, MFTs, RMHs, ect. 20: Spanish Breeds include all the Iberian breeds, regardless of gait (i.e, Andalusians/Lusitanos, Pasos, ect) 24: Other Sport Breeds include all warmbloods, carriage breeds, and other sport types such as Standardbreds. 29: For all other breeds not listed, including mixed breeds. 35: All pinto patterns, including sabinos.
*Bloodstock Classes: Starting with the January 2008 halter show, ALL bloodstock entries must be submitted on a piece of paper with the photos of the parents and foals scanned in. You must enter a separate piece of paper for EACH class you wish to enter. Judges will be instructed to ignore any entries sent on photos alone. An entry should look like this example (130KB PDF).
Full results must be given to all entrants, and an additional copy must be sent to the President (address on first page) for records- keeping. To prevent entrants from missing upcoming shows, judges MUST judge shows on the scheduled date and MUST return the results and photos within 14 days. Judges who fail to do so will be temporarily suspended from judging IPABRA shows until they complete a probationary period. Judges who are late with results and photos more then once will be permanently barred from judging in IPABRA.
Point values for the monthly POSes are 1st - 10 points, 2nd - 9, 3rd- 8, 4th- 7, 5th - 6, 6th -5, 7th- 4, 8th- 3, 9th - 2, 10 - 1, and Honorable Mention - 1/2. Championships are 50 points, and Reserves are 35. Members will log their own points on the IPABRA pointkeeping sheets and return them to the Pointkeeper by February 1st of the following year. The IPABRA pointkeeping sheet is available online in real text or PDF format.
IPABRA benefit shows will be rated at double points. Benefit shows may use any classlist (although showholders are encouraged to include breeding classes), and will be advertised for free in Bloodlines. Benefits must appear in Bloodlines in order to count for points. Only points from IPABRA monthly shows and benefits will count towards club awards so as to give everyone the same chance. Although the monthly shows do not offer performance classes, benefit show holders are welcomed and encouraged to include performance divisions.
In order for a horse to compete at the IPABRA Nationals (held in December by a guest judge), he/she must have been awarded first place at an IPABRA show (monthly or benefit) during that show year. The horse does not have to win a first place in every class in order to compete in every class; one first place will qualify the model to enter at the Nationals show.
You must judge at least one show (monthly point show or benefit) or enter at least four shows in order to submit points for that year.
Ownership of Horses
Models must be shown by their owner, with the exception of breeding classes. Photos of models not owned by the shower can be used in the Bloodstock Classes, but may not be shown in the Gender, Breed, or Color classes. Photos such as these should be clearly marked "For Bloodstock Classes Only" and should also list the name of the horse's owner.
Year End Awards
These awards are given based on the points accumulated in a given show year (January 1st-December 31st). These awards are tabulated by the President (after members send in their point sheets) and winners will be announced in each March issue of Bloodlines.
Top Tens in each performance division will also be awarded if enough benefits hold performance classes.
Cumulative Awards
These are based on all the points the horse or breeder accumulates in a lifetime (they carry over each year). The President will automatically award Merit and Supreme Champion awards, but members must submit horses for the Medallion, Foundation and Master Breeder Awards when they are earned. Horses that achieve club awards will be listed in the March issue of Bloodlines.
Region of Merit (ROM)
750-1499 points in halter, performance, or breeding classes
Legion of Merit (LOM)
1500-4999 points in halter, performance, or breeding classes

Supreme Champion
Any horse winning five championship titles under at least three different judges. This title will be tallied automatically by the President. Horses winning Supreme Champion status will be allowed to place a "+" after their name based on the number of titles won (so a horse winning two Supreme Champion titles may place ++ after its name.)
Silver Medallion Sire
Any stallion with three or more get with ROMs. Get do not have to be owned by the stallion owner (i.e., another member can use your stallion and show his offspring to a ROM, and that will count as one of the needed ROMs.) This rule applies to all Sire/Dam awards.
Silver Medallion Dam
Any dam with two or more get with ROMs.
Gold Medallion Sire
Any stallion with a Supreme Champion title with three or more get with LOMs.
Gold Medallion Dam
Any mare with a Supreme Champion title with three or more get with LOMs.

Foundation Dam
Any Gold Medallion Dam to produce a Silver Medallion Sire or Dam.
Master Breeder
Any IPABRA member to win at least two Foundation titles.
IPABRA Real Mare Registry
Due to the scarcity of real mare pedigrees easily available for pedigree assigners, IPABRA has created the Real Mare Registry to try and help avoid multiple duplications of foals born on the same date. This is a completely voluntary service, but we encourage members to use the RMR to help make their own lists more realistic. If you have a foal out of a real mare, please contact the registrar with this information on the real mare; Name, breed, foaling date, year selected, and on the foal; the name, name of the sire, sex, and the owner's name and address. Updates of Real Mare Registrars will appear in each January issue. If you are knowledgable about a breed and see that no one is currently maintaining the registry, please contact the President to become the next registrar.
