Meet the Members - Beata Parsons
by Wendy Blum
This month's profile: Beata Parsons
Beata is a fairly new member of IPABRA. She joined in May 1999 while on maternity
leave after having twin girls. In addition to her twins, Beata also has a four
year old to keep her busy! Her involvement with this hobby and her contact with
other members "is the only thing that has kept me sane as well as still
letting me feel like I haven't lost all contact with horses....my real obsession."
Beata used to own two horses, one was an ASB gelding named "Top O Hill
Bourbon Stonewall" and the other a TB mare named "Keeping Secrets".
Bourbon is currently teaching disabled people to ride and Secret is somewhere
on the B-hunter circuit with a new owner. Her other real horse interests include
combined training.
To Beata, the best thing about IPABRA and the PA hobby is the many people who
are willing to share their knowledge and experiences. Additionally, she is amazed
at all she has learned in the past year. Some advice she offers to newcomers:
"Keep your mind open and absorb everything and don't try to pedigree everything
at once!"
Showing models is something Beata thoroughly enjoys and has several very successful
horses in her show string. They include "First Round" a buckskin Paint
(crop-out QH) who was just named Res. Champion Stallion and Res. Champion Breed
in the July POS. This was his first show! Another is her bay QH stallion, Skipa
Zip, who is always placing in both photo and live shows. Her favorite, however,
is a black MFT named Under Warranty. Last fall she considered selling him for
just $20 but decided to keep him and now he is a consistent placer in photo
shows.
Beata does have a s/d list but it is currently being re-vamped. Her list is
mostly comprised of QH's, TB's, and WB's. It will be available both by snail
mail and online.
