Stable Spotlight - Ponies
By Michelle Peck Williams
Welcome to The Stable Spotlight! First, I'd like to say that I'm glad to be
able to continue the great tradition started by Deb Moore with these articles.
I hope that I can do as good of a job as Deb has done with this column. I think
it's always fun to hear what the outstanding horses at stables all around the
country have been doing, and I'm glad to be able to pass that news along to
everyone. This month's feature is PONIES, and it sounds like IPABRA members
have some good ones!
We'll start first with Y-Bar Stables, owned by Melissa Effenberger. Their featured
stallion is Shaughnessey (Chantey x Island Star) Shaughnessey is a 1988 flaxen
liver chestnut Chincoteague Pony stallion. He is a Breyer #20 with resculpted
muscles and added "bulk" - his head profile was straightened and his
backbone rebuilt. Shaughnessey has the 'shaggy' look and a lot of character.
He was bred by Thunder Glen Ranch and Y-Bar Stables, and was Grand Champion
at Lori Monk's Pony Breeds benefit. He carries the sabino gene, too! His bloodlines
trace to The Snowhill Stallion, Pied Piper, Misty II, and Sandcastles. He stands
free to IPABRA members and is available for 1991 and older foals. Contact Melissa
for more information!

Our next featured horse is Charity's Dark Star (Kerrymor Madison -r x WBP Sweet
Charity), a 1992 dark bay Connemara stallion. He is a Starfire resin painted
by Carol Gasper and is owned by Wendy Blum of Riverview Farms. This stallion
has a Reserve Championship to his credit and always places extremely well in
IPABRA shows. His sire is a real Connemara stallion who excels at jumping and
dressage and his dam is a multi-champion in both the photo and live show ring
and is owned by Chris Semon. His excellent real lines close up include Lynfields
Kiltuch, *Blagdon Silver Gilt, Carna Bobby, and Calla Rebel. Charity's Dark
Star stands for 20c at Riverview Farms.
-Wendy Blum, 2714 Mt. Vista #2, Centralia, WA 98531
WBP Sweet Charity (Coosheen Finn -r x Village Belle -r) is next on the list
of outstanding ponies. She is a 1986 bay Connemara Pony mare, a Breyer "Keen"
customized by Chris Jolly. She's a multi-live and photo show champion and has
been taking the IPABRA show ring by storm! Her pedigree traces to top Connemaras
such as Lavalley Rebel and Clough Rebel. WBP Sweet Charity is the dam of 4 foals
including top showers Innishkerragh and Charity's Dark Star. Currently, this
mare is open for free but a photo approval is required. She is owned by Chris
Semon's October Moon Acres.
-Chris Semon, 120 Fountainview Lane #3A, Lombard, IL 60148
Our next featured pony is Sabryna (Royal Sandpiper x Galatora), a 1989 chestnut
Section B Welsh Pony mare owned by Heather Mays. She is a CWP #105 OF and is
a retired champion hunter pony. She is sired by the multi-champion shower and
race pony, Royal Sandpiper and carries lines to Coed Coch Blyndiver, *Coed Coch
Seren, Tregoyed Starlight and Liseter Shooting Star. She is available for 15c
and a LSASE. Contact Heather for open years and information.

From Golden Nichols Farm comes GN Rosin On the Bow (Blue Baron x Miss Twilight),
a 1993 dun Chincoteague Pony stallion. He is an OF from set #4810 and is shown
as a foal. He was bred by Whispering Hollow Stables and has won and placed in
many races. His offspring are currently winning at the races too! He stands
free to IPABRA members if the foal's name contains "Rosin" or "Bow"
or 10c to others. More information can be obtained by contacting Laura Prettyman
at Golden Nichols Farm in Brainerd, MN.
-Laura Prettyman, 1770 Cty Rd 123 SW, Brainerd, MN 56401
Another stable favorite comes from Julia Lord. His name is Arpeggio and he
is a gorgeous buttermilk buckskin tobiano mixed-bred hunter pony gelding. He
is a "Mozart" resin painted by Allie Davidson. His sire is a bay tobiano
Chincoteague Pony (they come in all shapes and sizes, and this one is a somewhat
larger, more refined one) named Apache's Treasure who was an excellent shower
in his day. His dam is one of Julia's most successful show models from several
years back, a dapple palomino Thoroughbred/Morab mare named Kolibri. Contact
Julia for more information.

Our last pony is Gretchen, owned by Woodland Stables. She is a 1979 chestnut
tobiano Chincoteague Pony mare. Her parents, John and Virgo are real wild ponies
on Assateague Island who were studied by scientist Ronald R. Keiper. Gretchen
is an OF Misty and hasn't been shown much, but has produced several foals, including
Daphne, Firestar, SJ Beachcomber and the live-show winner Andrew. She is available
for free from Woodland Stables.
